LDR Medical's Artificial Disc Featured in Swiss Spine Institute's 3rd Trans Atlantic Spine Congress Live Surgery Broadcast

Swiss Spine Institute's 3rd Trans Atlantic Spine Congress

Austin, TX (October 24, 2005)
ZURICH, Switzerland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2005-- LDR Medical announced today that its Mobi-C(R) cervical artificial disc will be part of an upcoming international live surgery broadcast. This innovative program is part of the Swiss Spine Institute's 3rd Trans Atlantic Spine Congress. The Mobi-C will be implanted during a live interactive surgery transmitted via satellite from the Swiss Spine Institute, Switzerland and the Texas Back Institute, USA, during the two day conference, November 4-5, 2005.

The Mobi-C is the first second-generation artificial cervical disc that uses mobile-bearing technology with contained mobility that allows for better replication of anatomical motion. The Mobi-C system also features one-step instrumentation for implantation that simplifies the surgical technique. The product was introduced in November 2004 and has already been used in over 100 patients outside the United States. Surgeon interest in the Mobi-C has been enthusiastic and the live surgery will highlight the innovative cervical artificial disc in front of an international audience.

The Swiss Spine Institute is well regarded for its scientific approach to showcase emerging technologies and utilizes a world-class faculty of thought leaders in the spine industry. In addition to live surgeries, the forum hosts academic debates and interactive electronic voting on presentations, with a strong bias on clinical results.

Christophe Lavigne, president and CEO of LDR Medical, comments, "We are honored to be selected to participate in this prestigious event. The Swiss Spine Institute has a reputation for creating forums with a scientific and clinical focus. We appreciate and support this approach. We look forward to showcasing the Mobi-C system through live surgery -- the true test of a product's design, instrumentation and surgical technique." The Mobi-C disc is not for sale in the United States and is limited to investigational use. LDR Spine, located in Austin, Texas, will be initiating the IDE clinical investigation for the Mobi-C artificial cervical disc.
