1st Mobi-C® cervical artificial disc implanted in China

LDR, a total spine solution company, announced that the 1st
Mobi-C cervical artificial disc was implanted in China
following Chinese approval to market that device in January
this year.
The first procedure was performed on February 12, 2009 by
Professor Tian Wei at the BJ Ji Shui Tan hospital, China’s
number one site for cervical disc replacement and where
Prof. Tian is chairman. Prof. Tian comments, “The operation
went very well. I can obtain primary stability easily and
safely without keels or screws and the instrumentation is
very straightforward. The Mobi-C will also be a very good
solution for multi-level and hybrid indications.”
The controlled mobility of the Mobi-C’s mobile insert
encourages restoration and respect of the instantaneous axis
of rotation for a return to physiological mobility of the
inter-vertebral disc and the cervical spine. This innovative
design also eliminates the need for invasive vertebral
anchorage thus reducing the stresses on the bone-implant
interface and facilitating multi-level implantations. The
Mobi-C was first introduced in November 2004 and has now
been used to treat over 6,000 patients worldwide.
